What I have learned so far about bras:

Most of your bra's support is in the band. I like the tightest bra band I can comfortably wear, at its loosest setting.

The more you wash your bras, the longer the band stays in good shape!

I had a really hard time figuring out my cup size. then I developed this method, my measure for a cup size. If other methods of figuring out your cup size do not work, it might work for you too.

If you buy a balcony bra, find your breasts are bulging out of the top a bit, and have no time to return it. Now you have this bra you can not really wear with sweaters and t shirts. I find Baby Phat, especially their smocked anywhere at its waist, plus size blouses! Their wrap tops are good for this so far too!

• Note the way the strap adjusting hardware will move up toward your shoulder.

• This is true of the Fantasie bras I have.

• I find, if I wanted to, I could adjust the strap all the way to the top of the cups!

While most of the support does come from your bra band, it is nice to be able to adjust your straps as high as you like!

Some bras come in both large band and large cup sizes. Sadly, often Goddess bras, which often come in the largest cup and band sizes, do not come in band sizes smaller than 36 or 34. Sometimes they do!

Regards larger cup bras, they carry, and have special deals on Panache, Fantasie and Freya bras, and now they even have Pour Moi?, which I thought was a Figleaves exclusive brand!

Her Room

I love Her Room for their wearer reviews. Apparently they ask for bra size, because in their reviews, most women give this. This makes feel as if I have a better idea of a style will work for me. I do not know if this is true or not, but that is how I feel about it. Also they at times have excellent prices on select bras from time to time, their Sale section is worth checking out before you buy elsewhere. They often have wider size ranges in many bras than other stores. They also have a good selection of plus size shapewear, and lots of it on sale, by Rago, Fleexes, Spanx, even Squeem. You will find them further down this page.

Two Common Bra Sizing problems

Figuring out your actual bra size will make wearing a bra, dressing, the way you feel all day and your appearance all so much better! It is worth the effort! If you are in doubt about your cup size, read find your cup size to learn one way do this . I do not have time to go get properly fitted, and I expect you do not either!

While I was reading about Fantasie's Anne underwire, balcony full figure bras below, I could not help but notice, as I recall reading other bra reviews, about two bra fit problems, and solutions, many women who review bras seem to not be aware of:

• If a your bra is riding up your back, its band size is too large.

• If the center gore of your bra does not lie flat against your breastbone, your cup size is too small.

Now with Fantasie bras, if you are accustomed to ordering bras in US sizes, quite often you will want to order one band size smaller, and possibly even one cup size smaller than your normal bra size, unless you are really full busted. I wear a 36 in Panache bras, but I am swimming in a Fantasie band size of 36, their 34 fits just fine.

Quite often these stores will have sales on large size Playtex, Goddess, Bali and other mid range priced bras. So for them it pays to shop around.

So far as I can tell, after looking at the stores here for a few years, Bigger Bras has the widest selection of full busted and small cup plus size bras. Also both large band and cup sizes, like Aviana's most popular minimizing bra in sizes up to 56K!

Bravissimo is the place to shop large cup size bras. They have bras, and large cup size swimwear, apparel and sleepwear, in sizes up to 40KK!

Figleaves has the second largest selection of both large and small cup sized full figure bras.

Bare Necessities' bras for plus size women, at the moment, seem to start at C cup sizes.

Figleaves.com points out in their bra care section, which you'll find in their All About The Bra section, you should not wear a bra 2 days in a row. Because the bra's fabric actually needs time to recover. They maintain that cared for properly, even an every day bra can last up to two years!

Glamour Magazine, on page on page 154 of this April issue that you should wear a bra once then wash it. After 100 times, toss it out. Both Figleaves and Glamour will tell you how to wash your bra.

Considering how expensive full figure bras, especially the larger cups size ones, it would pay us well to take their advise! I find I often wear out bras, favorite T-shirts, and now recently a much favored waist cincher I really enjoyed wearing. Yet also too pricey to wear out so fast. This is perhaps how I did it. Now I've got a bra that really fits, and this advise. I can't, at the moment, spring for a 2nd one to alternate with. So I'm making due with the old ones of the not so right size till I can get more.
